About the Withlacoochee State Forest………
Once you have ridden through the Withlacoochee forest, you will
understand why the World Wide Wildlife Fund has deemed this forest as
one of the “Top Ten Coolest Places You’ve Never Seen” in North
America.
The forest provides miles of unspoiled natural trails throughout. The
forest also consists of rolling hills; limestone caves, mature stands
of longleaf pines and live oak trees.This environment has created a
habitat that allows generous amounts of light to reach the forest
floor, thus creating a collection of under-story foliage.This forest
provides a wonderful habitat for several endangered species
including the gopher tortoise, the Pileated woodpecker and scrub jay. Also
among the inhabitants are white tail deer, coyote, fox, florida
panther, fox squirrel, raccoon, armadillo, hawk, bald eagle, wild
turkeys and quail just to name a few.
